Re: Directory links on Wiki pages

Hi rafal ome,
I've been thinking about your problem. Since I'm a relatively new user, there are probably many Tiki users more qualified that me to answer your question. However, I do have some ideas, some of what might work, or might give you some ideas that might work.
Directory Links?
Table of contents
First let me see if I understand what you are trying to accomplish:
I have a couple questions:
When you are in one of your Wiki pages, do you want to be able to click on the link and ....
- 1. ....go directly to the actual website (that is referenced in the directory)?, or
- 2. ....go to the directory listing?
- 3. ....go to a directory category (with multiple listings)?
- 4. ....do something else?
1. Links, Referenced in Directory, Go Directly to Website
When the visit clicks on a link in a Wiki page, they don't go to the directory, but go directly to the referenced website.
- All the links would only need to be updated within the directory, not at each individual link on each web page.
- All of your links would be referenced to the directory listing so you would only have to make sure the directory listing is current
- When you click on a link in a Wiki page, Tiki would get the correct URL from the directory listing.*You would enter the Directory listing as usual.
To Do This
- When entering the URL on the Wiki Page, first go to the directory listing linked website, "right click" on the URL and chose "copy shortcut".
- This will give you a "redirect" URL referenced to the Directory ID number of the linked website. (The advantage of this is that if your update the URL in the Directory, all the corresponding"redirect" links in the Wiki pages will automatically pick up the change, because the links will be referenced to the directory listing.)
All there any drawbacks to doing it this way? I don't know, I've only experimented with it a little to see that it does work. But you might want to do some experimenting and testing yourself to see if this does what you want it to do.
2.Links go to the directory listing
In this scenario, when a visitor to the website clicks on the link on a Wiki Page, they would have a two-step process to actually get to the reference website:
- Step One: They would be taken to the Directory listing for the link. At This point, they would read the directory listing of the website.
- Step Two:If your visitor then wanted to go to the website, they would click on the URL listing of the website.
Now, about implementing this Choice: I am relatively new to Tiki and don't know enough about it to know if it is possible to link to an individual directory listing. I have experimented and come up with some ideas (but haven't been able to get them to work)
- A. Use an Anchor PlugIn, such as PluginA. To enable this you would
- Put an anchor in the directory listing.
- On the Wiki Page, put a link to that anchor. When a visitor would click on the link, they would be taken to the directory listing.
- As mentioned above, I haven't yet been able to figure out to make this work, but maybe you or someone else might be able to work out the details.
- (As a side note, I think that you can have the Wiki page link reference to a Directory Category. So, to make this work, you might need to have each Directory listing have it's individual child category listing. Tedious, but probably workable)
- B. Somehow link to a "category filter" selection.
3. Linking to a Directory Category
''I have a wiki with lots of external links on each wiki page, I would like to use the directory features to organize all these links. So the directory becomes a way of organizing and formatting external links on wiki pages.
i.e. wiki page names match a directory catogory name and its coresponding links / so every wiki page shows the related selection of links when there is a wiki page name/directory catogory name match.

I reread your post this morning and just realized that I wrote most of the info above based on your first message. In t
If all you want to do is to have the Wiki pages link to a Directory category, instead of individual website listings, then that becomes a simple matter.
- Go to the directory and find the category you want to like to.
- "Right-click" on the category title, from the pop-up menu choose "copy shortcut".
- Go to your Wiki Page and paste the copied link on the page. Then format it as a link.
- When someone clicks on the link, on a Wiki page, he/she will be take to all the listings in that category.
I don't know if this is what you wanted, but these are the thoughts that came to me.
Best wishes,
