new interface questions

Hi,

I'm very new, learning tikiwiki, so far so good 😊 I would like to create a different user interface for my web site. I figured out how to create a new theme by copying and altering another but now I am stuck.

Is there a way I can "call" the modules and other info from a completely different user interface, a custom home page with graphic menus (so the menu in the left side bar would be my buttons not the default menus). If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I reviewed the smarty site docs but have no idea how I can hook into the backend tiki stuff (at least how the menus are displayed) to add a really customized custom home page. Also any ideas on how I can package my work to contribute an easy way for others to also extend the user interface?

Thanks!
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Id keep an eye on mods.tikiwiki.org, that should be getting some template documentation soon. The main page is drawn from tiki.tpl, which would need to sit in your templates/styles/yourstylename/ folder. Have a quick look at the Guides there for setting up your style home.

Your more than welcome to email me if you have any questions you want quick answers too.
