Bug Submitting

This forum is not for submitting bugs, but as a aid to those people starting out development work and developing on tiki.

The correct place for reporting Bugs is through the SourceForge bug trackers. These bugs are reviewed at release time and anything thats considered to be a showstopper by the release manager should hopefully get fixed.

I saw this the other day: http://dev.tikiwiki.org
Are we supposed to report there any bug, from now onwards, or just at sf.net bug tracker utility fo tw.o?

No that site is under development as an area to replace the sourceforge pages.

It needs more work before it becomes active.

I have seen the bug tracker on sourceforge, and found it unusable for the common user.

I would greatly prefer a Bug Report forum. With the bug tracker on sourceforge, you will only have geeks reporting bugs, and lose an important community resource.

Well judging by the amount of bugs we have there, its very much usable. Please consider registering there. bug reports in the forums will not be accepted.

Well, I can tell you that it discouraged me from submitting bug reports. I submitted one that I was desperate to get fixed, but I've seen other bugs that I'm not going to report because it's just too much trouble.

If you are really interested in quality control, you have to encourage people to submit bug reports, not discourage them. And if you are really interested in quality you don't ignore bug reports just because they weren't reported in the right way.

In fact, my experience has made me regretfully decide not to use Tiki. I love all the features, but it's still buggy and you can't get anyone to repond when you have a problem.

I understand, of course. I'm a developer too, and I know that responding to user complaints isn't fun. Developing new features is fun.

You are volunteers, so by all means, do what you enjoy. But be aware that it is costing you some users.

Sorry to hear this. Personnally, I try my best to fix bugs. I think it is more important that feature even if it not very well honoured. But sometimes, I have no time to fix at the present time or I don't know the solution ... Close you old post, repost it. It will appear at the top, and say something like "It is very important".
You can also ask a developper to help you : FindTikiExpert (I know it is a shameless proposition) but even a $5 donation can help to be at the top....
I know it is a pity that there is no organisation in tiki for bug fix, feature developpement ... but it is always time consuming

Tiki development does not have a structual team behind it. Its very open, you do what you want, when you want, where you want.

If you are using Tiki in a life or death situation as sylvie says its worth getting a support contract with someone in the know to give you piece of mind.

I hope you enjoy whatever you choose to use.

I appreciate your responses. I hope I didn't give the impression that I was accusing you of anything. I just thought you might find the feedback useful.

I think I'm going with WordPress, although the truth is I'm so disapointed that Tiki didn't work out that I'm procrastinating. WordPress looks beautiful (as opposed to Tiki which is too busy for my taste) and it has pingback which I really like. I'd much rather have Tiki, warts and all, nut I'm afraid I'd end up having to learn php and all the support packages and spend half of my time working on Tiki instead of blogging.

It looks like there is no one who uses Tiki for serious blogging. There are a few Tiki blogs, but they aren't used much. I'd be pretty much a customer base of one and I know from the support side how much attention those get 😊.

I'll think about hiring support. Off-hand, it sounds like another level of management that I don't want to have to get into though. All I want to do is blog.

And have surveys and cool stuff like that...

Is it possible to post somewhere in tikiwiki.org to sourceforge ? 😡
Sourceforge need an account and understand english.

Also bug reports on other sites will only get read by people in those sites.

Bugs should be submitted to SourceForge otherwise they cannot be tracked. A sourceforge account is easy to create.

I just wanted to update this post because another user posted a valid question about using http://dev.tikiwiki.org/ 's tracker system instead of sourceforge. I have already posted a few things on that tracker, but I want to know if that's the right thing to do. I noticed that the last post to this sticky was 6 months ago...so alot could have changed.

As of today, June 7th 2005, where should we post bugs?

Thanks.

No case combination of my account name and password are accepted at http://dev.tikiwiki.org/
"Invalid username or password"

So: wikilib.php function get_like_pages apparently dies a horrible and unfriendly death as of Tikiwiki 1.9.2. (I am working on a kludge using the Search as a replacement work-around.)
tiki-index.php?page=404

-Tagg

]Edit: The SQL error seems to occur only with numeric non-existant page names.

I would like to report a bug but the username/password I use here reports as invalid on TikiDev.

The message at dev.tikiwiki.com indicates that it is now supposed to be used instead of sourceforge; and I have used it in the past. However, lately I have been receiving 'Unable to contact server' error when trying to log on.
