    I am attempting to add RSS links in Tiki, but I get connection errors when I try to view them. I have also been testing Nuke and pasting the same URL in Nuke it works immediately. In Nuke they don't have an option for Port. In Tiki it wants to use Port 119. I also tried 80 and neither helped my problem.

    Are you sure you are talking about RSS links and not about News server connections?. Port 119 is the standard port for the NNTP protocol which Tiki can work with in the 'Newsreader' section? Don't confuse news with RSS 'news' here. RSS links you must define in the Admin panel under RSS modules.

    I am having RSS issues also.

    I have defined a RSS module for this address : http://arstechnica.com/etc/rdf/ars.rdf, and then created a user modules on the left side for it, but nothing shows up. When I try to view in the RSS modules section it just says 'Content' not anything interresting.

    Are the connections on port 80? I know that I have 119 closed.

    The arstechnica RSS feed works OK for me! Are you sure you defined the user module correctly? Did you click the 'use rss module' when creating the user module? In the 'Data' field you should have seen something like:

    where 'rss id' maps to the numeric id of the RSS feed you have defined before.

    Finally you must assign the custom user module to a location on the screen and to a number of user groups.

    RSS feeds do not use port 119, the news reader/server connections use this port

    I do have a
     User error
    Plugin argument(s) missing:
    • id or url
    in the module. If you are in the RSS Module admin, and you click on 'view' of a RSS feed, do you see the feed? I just see 'Content for the feed' at the top, so I am thinking that I have something wrong at that point.

    I wonder what I am doing wrong! This Tiki server is at my homebehind a firewall , but I am accessing the site just fine from work right now. I just can't seem to get the RSS part to download.

    I am headed home right now. Is there a log for Tiki that I can check to see if there is a file permission, or network error?

    No there's no log file. I can't run any RSS feeds from my own home machine because my ISP forces me to use a proxy server. Tiki does not support proxy servers. And any proxy server will mess up your RSS feed without that support.

    Can't think of anything else! 😕

    I don't think that there is a proxy server issue though. I think I have a straight net connection through a cable modem, other than my own firewall. The site currently runs fine other than that it seems. I will have to try a RSS reader outside of Tiki and see if that works.

    Thank you for your help on that! Everything is working fine now that I know that I was using the Newsreader and not the RSS. I found the php page for RSS and was able to get it to work. Again, this icon does not show up in the admin section. I would guess about half my icons are missing. I have 16 displayed in all.

    This is frustrating. I installed AmphetaDesk, and it is able to go out and get the RSS feed, so I am not being blocked by my ISP or some sillyness like that. Is there some way to check if a XML library is missing that might be needed or something?

    The admin panel can be a bit confusing. Some options you can only get to by clicking on the word 'Admin (click). THis will show you general configuration options for various modules categorized by icons. All other configuration options can only be reached if you 'open' the Admin menu by clicking on the [+] next to it.

    No not that I know of. If you install Tiki 'out-of-the-box' you should have all required files/components. In any case if you were missing critical files, I would expect Tiki to spit some horrible errors on your screen.

    does your Firewall allow php to make HTTP connections to the Internet ? And is php setup so that these connections are allowed ?
