The Discuss Button on the Wiki Page Produces the Error Msg "No forum indicated"

posts: 17

Hi All;

I enabled the "discuss" button on wiki pages but when I click on it, I get the error message, "No forum indicated". I have created a forum with the same name and have even put in a dummy post. Still the same.

I did find the old thread on this, but it didn't tell me anything, other than there is (was) as SourceForge issue for this problem in 2004.

So my question(s):
- Has this function been fixed?
- Am I missing the proper way to use this feature?
- Do I have to have a link embedded on the wiki page?
- Should I disable this feature?

Thanks for all the help with all my questions.

I think it was fixed (but not released). Which version do you use?

I'm using version 3.1.

Thanks

What do you mean by "a forum with the same name"? I'm just curious about the details of your problem because I tested the wiki discuss feature on two Tiki 3.1 sites and it works as expected at both. To keep things simple, at these sites I indicated one of the existing forums to use for discussing wiki pages.

Hi Gary;

Thanks for getting back to me.

There really aren't many details to go into. I have to admit, I don't know how to use this feature properly, as I can't really find instructions on how to link the wiki page to the related forum. My understanding was that in order to use the "discuss" button the wiki page name and the forum page name have to be the same. So if the name of the wiki page is "Listing" then the forum name has to be "Listing", is this correct?

Could you tell me how to use this feature properly? How would I, "indicate one of the existing forums for discussing wiki pages?" Do all of the pages have to point to the same forum?

Thank you very much for your help.

Carter

There's no requirement about the name of the forum. When you check the "Discuss" checkbox on the wiki admin page, a dropdown list should display that contains the names of your forums, and you select one of those. Does this list display for you?

Hi Gary;

I found the drop down on the admin page and a couple of things come to mind, so if you don't mind, I will ask about them.

First of all, I had the forum listed in that drop down pointing to a forum, who's name had an apostrophe in it. I changed the selection to a forum with an pure alphabetic name. This now seems to work. So my first question is, "If I want to link in the discuss button from the wiki to a forum, I can't have punctuation in the forum name, correct?"

Also, if you don't mind, I would like to confirm, I can't link separate wiki pages to different forums, can I? I have to link the entire wiki to one forum (multiple topics, but one forum), correct?

One other related question, when I am in the admin page and I click on the "permissions" key icon to the side of the "Forum for discussion:" prompt, I am taken to an error page that says "Unknown group". Any idea what that could be?

Thank you for all your help on this.

I'm not sure if punctuation in general is ruled out, but the appostrophe is apparently problematic for some reason (maybe due to messing up the script or due to url encoding problems). I have no idea if this is related or not, but there's a wiki admin option for using non-English wiki page names, and you could change that to "complete" (if I recall correctly) to see if it makes a difference.

As far as I know, there's no way to indicate more than one forum for discussing wiki pages.

I also get the "Unknown group" error message. Apparently that's a bug — or something that wasn't completed, etc. You can just set permissions as needed on the forum admin page.

Hi Gary;

Sorry for the long silence. I have tried to set the wiki to use and display non-English wiki pages and it is still the same. If there is an apostrophe in the page title, it cannot be linked using the Page Name structure. It has to be fully qualified, i.e: http://www.location.com/page. If there is no punctuation in the page title, then the Page Name structure works as advertised.

It isn't an unstoppable problem, it just means that some users will be a little timid at trying to link pages.

Not certain where to go from here. Is there something I can do to help?

Thanks

Carter

This still seems to be a problem in TW 15.1

There is only 1 forum in my installation, and it has a one-word name with only simple alphabetic characters found in the 7-bit US ASCII character set.

In the config page for the Wiki, that forum is named as the forum to Discuss the Wiki.

Still if a user takes the Discuss option, TW Produces the Error Msg "No forum indicated".
