Tiki 1.8 release

I ported to the 1.8 release this morning to check out the final release. Lots of great stuff here. The install/upgrade works great.

I had to go back to 1.7.5 mainly because of 2 bugs.

The first is already reported. You can not open any files attached in a forum post. Unfortunately, we have a forum with lots of stuff and this caused me to wait to upgrade.

The other item (which wouldn't prevent me from upgrading) is RSS. If any RSS feed is bad, you now get the XML error message. Unfortunately, it wipes out the whole page - so it won't just put the error where the RSS would go.

So on a wiki page with a "bunch" of stuff - including one line of RSS, if the RSS feed is down, the whole page becomes unavilable.

I did port alot of the stuff in 1.8 back to 1.7.5 - great stuff there. I just finished porting the RSS style sheets. I love the RSS style sheet support.

Nice job to the team.

hi bobzim,

Interesting feedback there. Im sure we can get that forum bug squished. However I would love to review your backports from 1.8 to 1.7.5 if you could email me them 😉 I dont use the RSS feeds at all, so may have to leave that to someone with some RSS knowledge.

Sure. I'll get a list of them together, and email them over. Most are just plugins that are enhanced, or improved .LIB implementations. I also have a few minor modifications to the browse-directory.tpl so it works more like Yahoo or other popular directories (readabilty) and to the image gallery browser.

I should have this together tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks. (and if you hear anything about the forum fix, please email me).

Hi,

About rss feeds: As far as i remember, ohertel did rss feeds for 1.8. One thing he enhanced was permission checking of rss feeds. So if you are not logged in into tiki, you usually cannot get a rss feed. I added some unfinished things. Especially, if you don't have the permission to view a rss feed i changed the error message from the default tikiwiki full html error message to a rss feed like message. But i'm not very familiar with rdf and that, so i may have done something wrong.
Anyway, i could not reproduce the problem, since i could not get a rss feed generated by tiki into tiki's rss modules. For any reason this does not work.

Hi Damian,

can you create an patch like 1.8.01 out of your bugfixes?

I think it is important to have a stable release strategie. Everbody should know what release/version he has. And to grab the source continuous from CVS is a very dangerous way.

What do you think?
