I am having RSS issues also.

I have defined a RSS module for this address : http://arstechnica.com/etc/rdf/ars.rdf, and then created a user modules on the left side for it, but nothing shows up. When I try to view in the RSS modules section it just says 'Content' not anything interresting.

Are the connections on port 80? I know that I have 119 closed.
